What Is An Air Bike (Assault Bike)?

An Air Bike, also referred to as a fan bike, is static with moveable arm handles and pedals attached to a big fan at the front. As the user pedals it, the fan gives air resistance for a cardio workout. This machine is primarily suitable for people who prefer High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Cross Fit training. The intensity of resistance is controlled manually by the user in an air bike.

Some air bikes have an interactive panel installed on the head which measures workout duration, calories burned, distance traveled, heart rate, etc. Air bikes come in different weights and sizes according to the users’ overall build.

Overall Features

Size and Weight

Air bikes come in different sizes and weights. Usually, these dimensions vary according to the overall physical profile of the user. On average, a basic air bike, like Assault Bike Classic by Assault Fitness, weighs around 96 pounds (44 kg) and measures 51″ by 48″.

The upgraded versions have additional features and are higher in weight and size. For example, the Assault Bike Pro by Assault Fitness weighs around 118 lbs. and measures 50 x 51 in size.

The Key Feature of an Air Bike is the Fan

The key feature of an Air bike is the fan which converts the airflow to create resistance. The propellers inside the cage covers are connected with paddle and handlebars that move simultaneously for both upper and lower body workouts. The size of the fan determines the level of resistance you will get. If the fan is bigger, like in Rouge Echo Bike, you will get more resistance and vice versa.

It’s a pedestal fan fueled by the moving power of the user.

Seat

The seat’s shape on an air bike is quite familiar to that of a sports bike seat. The extra cushioning on the seat provides a comfortable workout position for all the users. The upgraded models, like Assault Bike. Elite, come with a large seat for more comfort and support. All the manufacturers of air bikes offer adjustable seats with up and down and back and forth movement.

Electronic Motor

Air bikes don’t come with electronic motors as they don’t need electricity to run. Further, the resistance in an air bike is manual, unlike the magnetic force required to produce resistance in a treadmill, elliptical, or other exercise bike. The screen on the head that measures the workout stats operates with the fan’s movement.

Weight Capacity

A basic air bike supports an average weight capacity of 300 lbs. This weight capacity is suitable for an average-built person. However, if you fall into a heavyweight category, go for an upgraded version like Assault Bike Elite which has a weight capacity of 350 lbs.

Assembly

Air bikes are easy to assemble as they don’t have any sophisticated machinery attached. Usually, they come in disassembled form packed in a box, which you can easily place in your back seat or truck.

Drive Method

This is a static cycle, and it drives like a cycle. Apart from paddles, the attached hand bars also move with the paddles. Another benefit of an air bike is doing separate upper body workouts. Just place your feet on the separate footrests and move the cycle with your arms.

Measurements

Air bikes differ in measure according to the overall weight and fan size. On average, an air bike measures 51x23x50 in. to a maximum of 55x26x55 in. The fan size differs from the overall measurement. If you are looking for an air bike to place in your home gym or your garage, it’s suitable that you go for a small dimensional bike rather than the big one due to free area constraints.

Adjustability

You can only adjust the seat of an air bike. Any other piece like fan or chain and paddle are not adjustable. The seats are adjustable in two ways: up and down, far and close to the bar. The back-and-forth adjustment in most air bikes is confined to 5 or 6-step adjustment. However, the up and down adjustment can range from 10 to 12 steps.

Counting Calories

Air bikes are referred to as “Devil’s Tricycles” because they are the most effective source of burning calories. A normal air bike doesn’t have any interactive screen with multi-purpose options. However, the basic stats calculations are available in all versions of an air bike. Usually, you can monitor heart rate. Calories burned distance travel and time duration on your air bike. The advanced versions with interactive screens have Bluetooth connectivity options connected with the company’s fitness app to store your workout data and see a heart rate monitor. It has different workout programs with progress measurements for an advanced, personalized experience.

The beginners should use the air bike for 15 minutes, and the advanced users should not use it for more than 30 – 35 minutes per session at full capacity.

Where Can I Buy An Assault Bike?

You can buy it on e-commerce web-stores like Amazon or Walmart or directly from the company. Most of them offer home delivery. However, it’s better to take your time and research which bike is best for you.

Are There Any Safety Concerns With Assault Bikes?
